A TOTAL of 61 learners from the Onaushe Combined School in Oshana Region received brand-new school uniforms from the International University of Management (IUM) Student Representative Council (SRC) on Tuesday.

Officially handing over the donation, Toivo Akunda, SRC Chairperson at IUM Ongwediva, said that as part of their yearly calendar, they do a social responsibility activity where they identify a need in the community and try to help with what they can.

Akunda indicated that they came all the way to Onaushe Combined School to respond to a call of humanity.

“We understand that having the right uniform is not just about following school rules; it’s about fostering a sense of belonging, equality, and pride amongst the learners,” he said.

He added that it also gives learners the much-needed confidence and enthusiasm to actively participate in their learning process.

According to Akunda, as a Namibian private institution, they believe in the power of education and the importance of supporting young learners.

Hence, he said that this generous contribution of school uniforms is a testament to their commitment to enhancing the educational experience for learners at Onaushe Combined School.

School principal Gebhard Amunyela thanked the Ongwediva IUM campus SRC for the generous gesture and for restoring pride in their learners by providing them with brand-new school uniforms.

“This donation of 61 uniforms means a lot to our vulnerable learners and indeed our dear parents, especially our marginalized community who are already struggling to put bread on the table this year. They are facing severe drought, and it is not easy to cover up these little ones,” he said.

He added that IUM SRC has demonstrated that their young people love and would like to shape the future of Namibian children. They are eager to take the lead.

Amunyela indicated that investing in the education of Namibian children must be a priority for every meaningful Namibian, especially for national leaders.

He then urged the learners who are to benefit to take care of these school uniforms that they have received. “Let these uniforms be a turning point in your life, a point where you dedicate all your energy to your education, study hard, and plough back to your community later.”
