The Erongo Police revealed that the woman who allegedly committed suicide at Independence Beach in Walvis Bay last week has been identified by her family.
She was identified as Sarlote Nambahu Haipito, a 25-year-old Namibian woman from Kuisebmond, Walvis Bay.

This comes after the police in the Erongo region sought public assistance in identifying the woman, who was suspected to have committed suicide by ingesting Doom or cockroach killer. The incident took place on Friday, 19 July 2024, at about 18:30 at Independence Beach.
Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba of the Erongo Police reported that the woman was observed arriving at the beach and sitting on a bench for a while.
“She later went to the shore, came back, and then went into the public toilets. After a while, she came out and collapsed on the ground. The security guards on duty at the beach observed the incident from a distance and reported it to the police and hospital. The deceased was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival by the doctor,” Shapumba said.
