THE Okalongo Circuit will be hosting its 2nd annual tournament this weekend.
The tournament kicks off from the 19th to the 21st of July 2024 at Lukas Dama Primary School in Onandjaba Settlement of Okalongo town.
Tournament organizer Vaino Shimutwikeni said the circuit is one of the highly populated circuits in the Omusati regional education directorate, with a population of 13,800 learners and 26 schools.
Hence, Shimutwikeni indicated that the circuit plans to host its second edition sports tournament called the Annual Okalongo Circuit Tournament, which will run concurrently with the circuit fundraiser.
“The tournament, which is not meant for clubs nor schools, is aimed at bringing education circuits, ministries, private organizations, and corporate companies together,” he said.
He added that the tournament is sponsored to the tune of N$23,000 and will only cater to football and netball respectively.
Since this is the second edition, Shimutwikeni said they will try to add some other sporting codes in the future.
Moreover, he said that there will be a verification process of national identity as well as proof of employment for the organizations that players will be playing for.
He indicated that players are urged to play for the companies or circuits they are working for, as the primary aim of this tourney is to bring teachers and the corporate world together to share their expertise as well as ideas on their various professions and environments that would immensely contribute towards achievement within the educational sector.
“Teachers will be able to engage with one another on various educational aspects, share knowledge and skills, and be able to know each other for future educational assistance as part of team-building capacity in line with ministerial policies,” he added.
Shimutwikeni said participants will also be able to showcase their talents, which is worth emulating for school-going children to make informed decisions on what sports codes they would want to partake in the future.
