FIVE people died in a car accident between Tsumeb and Oshivello. The Namibian police have reported that the accident occurred after the car they were travelling in overturned.
According to Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the accident happened on Tuesday, 16 July 2024, at around 01:00 on the B1 road between Tsumeb and Oshivelo, Oshikoto Region.
“It is alleged that the driver of a white Nissan was travelling from Walvis Bay to Ondangwa, and about 40 km to Oshivelo, she lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the road and overturned. There were eight occupants in the vehicle; four died at the scene, one died at the hospital, and the other three injured were taken to Tsumeb State Hospital for medical attention,” Shikwambi said.
The deceased have been identified as Magdalena Ruanda, a 58-year-old Namibian female (driver), Martha Samuel (47), Reinhold Rannei Megameno Ankambo (18), Elizabeth Ruanda (5), and Bravo Simson, a 12-year-old boy.
The deceased bodies were taken to the Omuthiya police mortuary.
Next of kin have already been informed.
