SWAKOPMUND’S DRC location, home to over 50,000 people, will have a new state-of-the-art police station by 2026.
The Swakopmund Municipality, which donated the land for the project, has confirmed that construction of the police station is expected to be completed early in 2026.
Speaking at the official groundbreaking ceremony for the DRC Police Station, Dr Albert Kawana, the Minister of Home Affairs, Safety, and Immigration, revealed that the construction of the police station is funded by Rössing Uranium.
“By donating the funds necessary for the construction of this police station, you have not only demonstrated your faith in our community’s potential, but you have also set a shining example for other corporate entities to follow. Your contribution will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the lives of our citizens here at DRC,” Kawana added.
The minister disclosed that the DRC Police Station will include a charge office, police holding cells, ablution facilities, and other office spaces. He emphasised that the presence of a well-equipped police station will significantly enhance the capacity to respond to emergencies, prevent crime, and maintain law and order, while also fostering a sense of security, encouraging economic growth, and promoting social cohesion.
“As the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, I am deeply aware of the challenges we face in maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and fostering a sense of security among our citizens. Today, we take a bold step forward in addressing some of these challenges by laying the foundation for a state-of-the-art police station here at the DRC Settlement,” Kawana said.
