Shaalukeni feeds 50 families

IN an effort to fight food insecurity, Helao Nafidi Town Mayor Darius Shaalukeni has assisted 50 families with bags of maize meal recently.

The 20kg bags, worth nearly N$20,000, were acquired from a local business company known as Ehafo Trading and were distributed within the towns of Helao Nafidi.

According to Shaalukeni, the bags of maize meal will be given to those who are most food insecure in their area, as many people do not benefit from the drought relief program.

“We will continue to find ways to feed our people with the little we have as a town,” he said.

Reports indicate that the prolonged period of low rainfall has had a devastating effect, with more than 500,000 people in Namibia suffering from the impact.

In addition, the drought has resulted in the loss of more than 60,000 livestock and has left many locals facing significant challenges, including food insecurity and water shortages.

Hence, President Nangolo Mbumba declared a state of emergency on drought due to the persisting national disaster affecting all regions.
