OSHANA police teams have walked away with 31 medals at the just-ended 27th NamPol championship games held in the //Karas Region.
Oshana Regional Commander Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria said it is very important to have an active police force to maintain high performance.
Sakaria made these remarks during a parade held on Tuesday at the police headquarters in Oshakati, following the participation of the Oshana NamPol teams in the 27th NamPol championship.
The 27th Namibian Police Force (NamPol) annual sports championship took place from 24-30 June 2024 in Keetmanshoop.
According to Sakaria, around 85 members participated in the championship, where they scooped 25 gold medals, three silver medals, and three bronze medals.
“We took third place for the overall best-performing region, an improvement from last year,” he said.
He explained that to ensure high performance, they have enforced sporting activities, introducing a sports day every Wednesday for the men and women in uniform to participate.
Sakaria indicated that they do sports together as this also creates coherence and serves as a team-building exercise.
He stressed that preparing for the championship came with its own challenges, which they were able to overcome as a team. He added that the team displayed discipline throughout the championship.
The 28th championship will be held next year in Otjiwarongo.
