THE spokesperson of the Namibian Police, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, has confirmed that a robbery suspect shot on Independence Avenue has died.
According to Shikwambi, the details of the incident are still in the early stages, but the robbery itself has been confirmed.
“Preliminary reports indicate that three suspects allegedly attempted to rob a woman who owns a salon business in that area. She was heading to the bank in a private vehicle when the robbers saw an inspector who was alone walking nearby. They started shooting in his direction. The officer responded and, in the exchange of fire, struck one suspect, who succumbed to his injuries,” Shikwambi said.
She added that one suspect has been arrested, while another fled.
The officer involved in the shootout is unharmed. Police investigations continue.
