A BABY girl, estimated to be about eight months old, was found abandoned near a rural village cemetery on Wednesday shortly before midnight.
According to the Namibian police in the Oshana Region, the baby was discovered by a male passerby who was alerted by the cry of a baby while he walked past a cemetery in the Onelago village, Omagongati area.
The man investigated and discovered an abandoned baby girl. He picked her up and took her to the nearby shebeens for possible identification. However, none of the people present recognized the baby, who was wearing a blue Pep bodysuit and a pink shirt underneath, along with a blue beanie.
Chief Inspector Thomas Aiyambo reported that the baby is safe and sound. He is appealing to anyone with information that can help trace the baby’s mother to contact the police’s child protection unit at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, at 065-2236056 or 065-2236057.
