MONDAY’s extremely cold weather came a day after Opoto Mills donated blankets to elderly residents of the Lungalunga-B village in the Ondangwa Rural constituency of the Oshana Region, a move village secretary Paulina Ruben said was “perfectly timed.”
Ruben said the donation addresses two current challenges: the cold and the drought.
The fifteen beneficiaries, mostly elders, each received a blanket, 20 kilograms of mahangu flour, ten kilograms of maize meal, ten kilograms of mahangu bran, and two litres of cooking oil. The donated items have a total value of N$17,000.
“We highly appreciate what Opoto Mills has done for us, the inhabitants of this village. May Almighty God bless the business enterprise and make it grow from strength to strength so it can continue rendering assistance to the people,” said Ruben.
Magano Inkono Sr, co-owner of Opoto Mills, said businesses have a responsibility to give back to the community, especially when communities face challenges like the current drought. She said, “Our elderly people are carrying a heavy burden indeed and need our help. Their dependants are numerous, and their harvest was meagre — if not non-existent — for two consecutive years.”
Opoto Mills’ main branch is located in the Lungalunga-B village along the Ongwediva-Ondangwa main road.
