The Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Calle Schlettwein, is attending the ‘Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa’, with the goal of prioritising clean cooking on the global agenda and mobilising broader support for the cause.
The summit is taking place at the Headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, France. It is being attended by other prominent leaders, including the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan; the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre; the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Dr. Fatih Birol; and the President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.
The Agriculture Ministry confirmed that Schlettwein is one of the attendees expected to take part in a session during the summit focusing on “Catalysing Multi-stakeholder Partnerships.”
In addition to emphasising the importance of clean cooking globally and garnering wider support, the summit also aims to develop a roadmap of concrete, action-oriented strategies around financing, carbon markets, policies, and partnerships that will help better mobilise additional support to scale successful clean cooking efforts.
Moreover, the summit seeks to mobilise financial commitments for clean cooking from governments, development agencies, development banks, climate funds, the private sector, philanthropies, and non-governmental organisations.
