BUSINESSMAN Josafat Shilongo was attacked and injured by armed robbers on Tuesday shortly after withdrawing a fairly large amount of money from the Ondangwa branch of Bank Windhoek.
The 45-year-old Shilongo was shot in the stomach, but the robbers failed to steal the money, thanks to a vigilant employee who alerted his employer just in time.
According to the police, the incident occurred at the Aluminium and Glass workshop in Omwandi, Ondangwa, around 11:00, after Shilongo withdrew N$50,000 from the bank and drove to his workplace. Upon arrival, he was informed that he was likely being followed by two suspects.
It is alleged that the two suspects immediately charged towards Shilongo, who ran into the workshop with one of his employees as the robbers started shooting with a pistol.
During the confrontation, Shilongo sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach, but the suspects were unable to seize the money. They fled the scene immediately thereafter.
“The victim was rushed to the Ondangwa private hospital, where he is currently admitted in stable condition,” said the police.
No arrests have been made yet.
