Oshana records 12 drunken driving cases during Easter

THE Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region has registered 12 drunken driving cases reported during the long Easter weekend.

This was confirmed by Oshana Regional Commander Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria on Tuesday, stating that one fatality was also reported where a driver died.

According to Sakaria, they also issued 156 tickets worth N$161,000.

“Although accidents were low, other road behaviours were not maintained as violations of traffic laws and regulations,” he said.

He added that the town had a total of visitors from all walks of life, which caused high traffic in town.

Sakaria indicated that the only challenges they faced were some travellers who could not find public transport to travel back to their final destination and high fees being requested by private transport owners.

Sakaria then thanked the general public and urged them to continue driving correctly, but also to check the condition of their vehicles and only drive once they acquire the correct documents.
