Ruacana Easter Tournament kicks off this week

THE much-anticipated 11th edition of the Ruacana Annual Tournament will kick off from March 29 to April 1, 2024, at the Oshifo sports field.

Tournament organizer Simaneka Nendongo said that the Council has allocated a total of N$350,000 for hosting the town’s highly anticipated tournament.

According to Nendongo, N$148,000 has been set aside for prizes, with the remainder used for other expenses.


Nendongo emphasized that this is the biggest event on their calendar, and they anticipate catering to thousands of visitors attending this year’s tournament.

“During the four days of the tournament, local traders will make extra income, hopefully contributing to the town’s economy,” he said.

This year, Nendongo mentioned that four sports codes were featured.

In the male Soccer Category, the winner will receive N$25,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. The second runner-up will receive N$17,000 and silver medals, while the semi-finalists will receive N$6,000 and N$4,000 respectively.

For the female and Legend Soccer Category, the winners will receive N$9,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. Second place will receive N$7,000 and silver medals, while third place will receive N$5,000 and bronze medals.

In the Netball Category, the winner will receive N$12,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. The second runner-up will receive N$8,000 and silver medals, while the third-place winner will receive N$6,000 and bronze medals.

Regarding the volleyball and basketball sport codes, Nendongo mentioned that the winners will receive N$7,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. The second-place team will receive N$5,000 and silver medals, while the third-place winner will receive N$3,000 and bronze medals respectively.
