Portraying the President

A WINDHOEK-BASED pyrographer, Kanyanga Paulus Simaho, has produced a wood-burning portrait of President Nangolo Mbumba that he plans to hand over to the Head of State at the earliest opportune moment after the burial of late President Hage Geingob.

The 30-year-old Simaho, originally from Kaguni village, southwest of Rundu in the Kavango East Region, said that his interest in handicrafts started at the age of five. Initially, he used clay and then progressed to drawing on paper.

“As I grew up, so did my love for handicraft,” he said. “I used to express myself using graphite and charcoal pencils, paints, linocut, as well as wood burning.”

He attended the College of the Arts for a year before establishing his business, Particular Arts and Investment cc.

“I find inspiration in Peter Alex Idogo, the renowned Nigerian visual artist,” he said.
