THE Namibian police in the Oshikoto Region are investigating a case of fraud after a 42-year-old resident of the Ohailungu village in the Omutsegonime area lost N$400 to a scammer who pretended to be the unemployed victim’s neighbour. The incident occurred a month ago, on 15 January, but was only reported to the police this week.
According to the police, the unknown suspect asked for money while pretending to be the victim’s neighbour. An e-wallet of N$400 was sent to the suspect and was cashed at an ATM at the FNB branch in Ondangwa.
The victim only discovered later that the person to whom he sent the money was not his neighbour but an impersonator. The money was not recovered, and the unknown suspect is still at large.
