THE official memorial service and funeral for the late President Hage Geingob are scheduled to take place on the 23rd and 24th of February.
This announcement was made by the newly-appointed Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, who confirmed that preparations for the official memorial service and funeral are currently underway. Although the venue for the official memorial service has not been confirmed, Theofelus assured that it will be announced at a later stage.
Theofelus explained that leading up to the official memorial service, regional memorial services will be held in every region of the country. However, she revealed that the body of the late president will remain in the capital city during this period. Theofelus confirmed that the regional memorial services will be coordinated between the central government and the governors’ offices in each region. She assured that her ministry will share more information regarding these memorial services on Monday.
Furthermore, Theofelus announced that the daily memorial services, held at the late president’s residence this week, will be temporarily paused for the weekend and will recommence on Monday. However, starting from Monday, these services will shift to the Sam Nujoma Stadium, commencing at 18:00.
