SEVERAL places, particularly in the Hardap and Omaheke regions, saw substantial rainfall this week, and more is expected.

One of the places that stood out, in this regard, is Farm Virunga in the Hardap Region, which recorded 50 millimetres (mm) of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday morning alone.

Several other places in the Hardap Region also experienced light to moderate rainfall during this period. This includes Maltahöhe and Stampriet, which recorded 1.4mm and 25mm of rain respectively between Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Maltahöhe also received very light rain the previous day, registering 0.8mm between Monday and Tuesday morning.

Omaheke also experienced impressive rainfall this week, with Farm Reitz and Farm Chamanoudon recording 34mm and 23mm of rain respectively between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

While the Hardap and Omaheke regions were the most notable in recent rainfall, they weren’t the only areas to receive rain on Tuesday. Several places in the northern and central regions also received some rainfall during this period. This includes, but is not limited to, Oshakati in the Oshana Region, Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region, Alex Muranda in the Kavango East Region, and Claratal in the Khomas Region. They recorded 27.6mm, 5.4mm, 5.3mm, and 2.5mm of rain respectively between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Stunning photos and videos showcasing rainfall in Okahandja in the Otjozondjupa Region and Okangwati in the Kunene Region have been circulating online. These illustrate the significant downpours in these areas, prompting expressions of gratitude from numerous Facebook users.

These rain enthusiasts may have more reasons to be thankful as further rain is expected for the remainder of this week. According to Namibia Meteorological Services, the North is likely to experience moderate to heavy showers on Thursday, extending to the central and south-eastern parts of the country by Friday.
