A 47-YEAR-OLD man was arrested after being found in possession of 552 live ammunition at Otuwala Village in the Oshakati area.

NamPol Inspector Raimbert Muronga said the suspect was apprehended around 10:22 on Thursday.

“It is alleged that the suspect was found in possession of firearms and ammunition without a license in his house,” he said.

He added that the suspect had R4,5,6 calibre ammunition, AK 47 assault rifle ammunition, 303 calibre rifle ammunition, 9mm pistol ammunition, 6.35 mm pistol ammunition, and 22 hunting rifle ammunition.

Muronga indicated that all 552 live ammunition were recovered and seized.

He noted that the suspect is expected to appear before the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Monday for contravening Section 22 of Act 7 of 1996 of the Arms and Ammunition Act – possession of live ammunition without a permit/license.

He urged the public to cooperate with the police to keep communities, society, and the environment free from dangerous elements at all times.
