A SAND miner allegedly discovered a human skull and jawbone in a pile of sand in Ondangwa recently. This was confirmed by Deputy Commissioner Theophilus Kamati.
According to Kamati, a human skull was found by a factory worker while they were manufacturing bricks in Ondangwa, next to Sun-square Mall, and they notified investigators in Ondangwa.
“The skull was found next to a pile of bricks that were manufactured and alleged to have been found in a pile of sand that was brought by their truck driver,” he said.
He added that the sand was retrieved from Onashiku village in the area of Oshakati, according to the truck driver who collected the sand last month.
“When we arrived at the secondary scene where sand mining was in progress, a member of the community allegedly indicated that in the olden days, there used to be a cemetery close to where the mine is situated, and there is a possibility that the skull is from there,” he added.
Kamati noted that it is further alleged that, since back then, they used to bury people scattered in that area.
He indicated that the committee members and the site secretary are allegedly aware of a cemetery site in that vicinity and have cordoned off the possible cemetery site by fencing it.
The remains have been transported to the forensic facility.
