Two more employees of Zambezi Regional Council to appear in court over N$4 million corruption case

TWO more employees of the Zambezi Regional Council who were arrested in connection with a corruption case involving the abuse of position for gratification with N$4 million in public funds will appear today before the Katima Mulilo Magistrate court.

Their co-accused, Zambezi Chief Regional Officer Regina Ndopu-Lubinda, aged 51, Beaven Matengu Walubita, 48, Head of Planning and Rural Development, Cletius Mubita, 48, Deputy Director of Planning, and Daniel Mbala, Chief of Planning, appeared before court yesterday and were granted bail of N$50,000 each.

The six suspects were arrested for contravention of Section 43, 46, and 49 of the Anti-Corruption Act, Act 8 of 2003. They are charged with abusing their positions for gratification, alternatively fraud involving N$4 million in public funds between 2016 and December 2020 at the Zambezi Regional Council office.

The case of the employees who appeared yesterday was postponed until December 7, 2023, for legal aid.

It is further reported that suspect number five was arrested in Windhoek on Monday, while suspect number six, a 47-year-old Namibian man, was also arrested late yesterday in Katima Mulilo and will appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s court today, October 10.

The Head of ACC, Paulus Noa, said that the case investigation was completed and that two dockets were submitted to the PG’s office for a decision.
