GT school office burnt by unknown

THE police in Oshana have launched a manhunt after unknown suspects gained entrance to Gabriel Taapopi (GT) Senior Secondary School and set it on fire.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday morning, was only reported to NamPol yesterday.

Oshana Community Affairs Officer Warrant Frieda Shikole said the suspects allegedly broke the office door with an unknown object, gained entry, and set the office on fire.

“The fire has caused damage to the wall and wooden roof,” she said.

However, the iron (zinc) roof did not get burned, while the other two neighbouring office wooden roofs were only harmed by the fire’s heat but not completely burned.

According to Shikole, mostly educational documents such as bundles of oral assessments for Namcol learners, exam markers, attendance records, books, and all the items that were in one office got burned completely to ash.

“The two suspected footprints jumped over the school fence after the incident, walking in the west direction until the main road where they could not be seen further,” she added.

A case of arson and housebreaking with intent to commit an unknown crime is being investigated by police in the Oshana Region.

Shikole indicated that the total value of the damage cannot be established at the moment because the school management is still busy identifying the appropriate figures.
