Suspects in attempted Style clothing store robbery remanded in custody

Staff Reporter

THREE men linked to an attempted robbery at a Style clothing store made their first appearance in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court today.

The accused men are Hosian Natangwe, 38 years old; William Sheeham, 30 years old; and Matias Andreas, 32 years old. They appeared on charges of robbery under aggravating circumstances after they were arrested in the shop before they could commit any crime. One of the employees alerted the police, preventing the robbery.

The incident occurred at approximately 09:10 on Monday at the popular Style clothing store when three men armed with a gas pistol and pangas stormed into the store.

While the suspected robbers were caught red-handed, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, the head of the Community Affairs Division of the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region, emphasized the importance of communities remaining vigilant and watchful. This vigilance is crucial as crime statistics show that shop robberies tend to occur predominantly during the morning hours following a busy weekend or late in the afternoon when there are fewer people present.

The accused men have been remanded in custody until their next court appearance scheduled for 6 December 2023.
