MVA Fund offers condolences and sympathy to families of weekend road crashes

Staff Reporter

THE Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims of the fatal accidents that occurred on the Katima Mulilo-Kongola road and the Mariental-Keetmanshoop road over the weekend.

In a statement, the MVA Fund assures these grieving families that those injured in the road crashes will receive the appropriate medical care and the attention they need. The Fund also expresses deep concern about the loss of 23 lives and the injury of 176 people in road traffic crashes over the past week. It calls for enhanced vigilance and responsible road user behaviour from all drivers.

Both accidents, which claimed 15 lives and caused injuries, occurred on separate occasions during the weekend. The MVA Fund encourages family members to contact their nearest MVA Fund services centre in Katima Mulilo, where they can reach Roster Matabele at 066 253 007 or via email at roster@mvafund.com.na. Families of the Mariental-Keetmanshoop road crash victims may contact Sinna !Noetes at 063 221 080 or via email at sinna@mvafund.com.na to inquire about funeral and other benefits offered by the MVA Fund.

The Fund further reports that from January 2023 to October 1, 2023, statistics recorded a total of 2191 crashes, 3904 injuries, and 304 fatalities. It strongly cautions road users to prioritize the safety of all road users. As we approach the end of the year, the MVA Fund emphasizes the importance of exercising caution, maintaining safe driving practices, and prioritizing the safety of all road users to prevent such calamities and avoid the loss of lives on our roads.

In conclusion, the Fund reiterates that the safety of road users is of paramount importance to the MVA Fund, as road crashes have devastating consequences that affect families, communities, and the nation as a whole. The MVA Fund observes that many of these crashes are often predictable and preventable through conscientious driving, strict adherence to road traffic rules and regulations, and planning long journeys while avoiding night driving when visibility is reduced on the road.
