THE One Economy Foundation, established by First Lady Monica Geingos, will officially open the doors of the #BeFree Youth Campus on 1 September.
The #BeFree and One Economy Foundation Ambassador, Rivaldo Kanongo Kavanga, revealed that the centre will serve as a cutting-edge hub dedicated to the youth. According to Kavanga, this centre aims to empower the youth by addressing gaps overlooked by the conventional education system, which tends to neglect crucial subjects such as sexual health and mental well-being.
Kavanga explained that the centre will provide a safe, non-judgmental haven where young individuals can openly engage in conversations about these topics. This pioneering centre aims to reshape the prevailing hush-hush discourse surrounding subjects that are considered taboo within schools, he added.
“The #BeFree Youth Campus heralds a new era for education in Namibia, aiming to empower and uplift the youth by filling critical gaps left by the formal education system. By addressing taboo issues, providing comprehensive life skills education, and fostering resilience, this centre promises to be a transformative force in the lives of young individuals and the community as a whole,” Kavanga said.
Furthermore, Kavanga revealed that the facility will provide young people with additional support to complement their educational needs, offer all-encompassing life skills education, and foster resilience. Kavanga said that all these offerings will be housed within a state-of-the-art establishment, equipped with modern learning tools and resources.
“By fostering a supportive atmosphere, centre enables comprehensive education that equips young individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate life,” Kavanga appended.
Lelly Karen Amunyela, a Youth Project Officer involved with the i-BreakFree Project, stands out among those eagerly anticipating the official opening of the #BeFree Youth Campus. The i-BreakFree Project is dedicated to enhancing the availability of information and services related to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for adolescents and young individuals in Namibia.
According to Amunyela, the One Economy Foundation, through the launch of this facility, showcases the essential contribution made by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in promoting and ensuring access to SRHR services and information for Namibia’s adolescents and young people.
” Among the many CSOs making a difference, the One Economy Foundation stands out for its exceptional work in facilitating access to SRHR services and information for Namibian adolescents and young people. Through advocacy, education and community-based interventions, One Economy Foundation has been instrumental in breaking down barriers, promoting inclusivity, and ensuring that SRHR rights are upheld,” Amunyela supplemented.
