MINISTER of Information, Communication, and Technology Peya Mushelenga officially launched the first Oshana investment conference.
The conference is slated for the 23-24 August at the University of Namibia (UNAM) Engineering Campus and focuses on marketing Oshana as an investment area.
Oshana regional office has put aside a budget of nearly N$500 000 for the hosting of the event, which will be boosted by sponsors.
Mushelenga said the initiative of Oshana Region Investors Conference is commendable.
He made the remarks while officially launching the Oshana investment conference on Thursday.
Thus, Mushelenga noted that the launch of the Oshana Investors Conference is an important occasion, which provides businesses with information on the nature, organization, and other related aspects of the Conference.
“Generally, investors focus on capital cities and commercial cities, leaving countries with spatial distribution of economic activities,” he said.
He added that the scholars of regional developments and local economic developments have maintained that there are negative effects resulting from concentrating economic activities on selected geographic locations.
Mushelenga noted that these effects necessitate that regional leaders should come up with strategies to bring economic activities to regions.
Oshana governor Elia Irimari said the initiative will create an environment that fosters investment opportunities, promotes economic growth, and improves the quality of life for the people of our region.
Irimari indicated that the conference will serve as a platform for potential investors to explore the vast potential that Oshana has to offer, from agriculture to tourism, manufacturing to technology.
“We firmly believe that by attracting investment, we can create job opportunities, enhance infrastructure, and ultimately improve the overall well-being of our people,” he said.
He noted that by working together, they can transform Oshana into a thriving hub of economic activity, contributing to the growth of our nation as a whole.
Irimari then called the inhabitants of the region to come together, harness their collective potential, and create a brighter future for the people of Oshana.
On his part, Oshana Regional Planning and Economic Development head Jeckonia Nangolo said that the region has all potential areas and not to be unlocked for the growth of the town.
Nangolo indicated that they expect about 250 participants for the conference with 30 exhibitors having already shown interest in showcasing their services and products to potential investors.
“We as a region are ready from the regional to national, stakeholders were engaged in the whole program,” he said.
Last year, a pre-conference was held, where products were identified and listed in the region meant to be displayed to investors.
