PRIME Minister Saara Kuugongelwa Amadhila has said that, according to Namibian law, marriage is between a man and a woman. The cabinet plans to introduce a motion to parliament with the aim of establishing a law that will prohibit the recognition of same-sex marriages in the country.
Kuugongelwa-Amadhila made these remarks during the resumption of Parliament, emphasizing that the formulation of this new act will be given the highest priority to ensure its prompt presentation before parliament. The purpose of this proposed law is to override the Supreme Court ruling that recognized same-sex marriages involving Namibians conducted abroad.
