Hambili Haufiku tournament kicks off on Friday

THE Hambili Haufiku Secondary School in Eenhana will be hosting its first-ever interschool tournament, which will kick off on Friday.

The tournament is scheduled to take place at the school sports ground from May 19-21, 2023.

An amount of nearly N$25,000 has been set aside for the tournament.

One of the organizing committee members, Jonsen Kamhulu, said the tournament is aimed at raising funds for learners’ textbooks and chairs.

Kamhulu added that all secondary schools and combined schools with grade 11 are expected to participate.

“We want to bring out all young sports enthusiasts, focusing on secondary school learners,” Kamhulu said.

He indicated that they have four sports codes lined up, including soccer, netball, volleyball, and basketball.

In the Boys Soccer Category, the winner will receive N$3,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals.

The second runner-up will receive N$2,500 and silver medals, the third-place winner will receive N$1,500 and bronze medals, while the fourth-place winner will receive N$1,900.

In the Girls Soccer Category, the winner will receive N$2,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. Second place will receive N$1,200 and silver medals, while third place will receive N$800 and bronze medals.

Meanwhile, in the Boys Basketball Category, the winner will receive N$1,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. The second runner-up will receive N$600 and silver medals, while the third-place winner will receive N$400 and bronze medals.

In the Girls Basketball Category, the winner will walk away with N$650, a floating trophy, and gold medals. Second place will receive N$400 and silver medals, while the third-place winner will receive N$250 and bronze medals.

Regarding the netball sport code, Kamhulu mentioned that the winner will receive N$2,500, a floating trophy, and gold medals.

The second-place team will receive N$1,500 and silver medals, while the third-place winner will receive N$1,000 and bronze medals.

For volleyball, the winner will receive N$1,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. Second place will receive N$600 and silver medals, while the third-place winner will receive N$400 and bronze medals.
