Legal Shield awards future legal excellence

WITH its longstanding legacy of well over 22 years, Trustco Insurance demonstrated its continued support in providing financial support to Namibian law students.

Trustco Insurance, through its Legal Shield product, has dedicated itself to supporting two University of Namibia Law students for the 2023 academic year. The students will receive financial support as well as an opportunity to conduct their Work Integrated Learning at Trustco Insurance upon graduation.

These two bursaries could not be bestowed upon two more deserving students. Madawa Geises and Pienaar Gabriel talked candidly about their journeys to where they are today, which shows their inner strength and tenacity. They went through a testing selection process through a string of criteria to land the bursaries worth N$ 30 000. They both agree that this would give them the opportunity and freedom to focus on their studies while Legal Shield takes care of all external logistics.

With well over N$1.1 million awarded to students since 2002, Legal Shield doubles down on ensuring a constant stream of new blood is pumped into the legal profession in Namibia. Upon completion of their studies, the two recipients will be granted the opportunity of employment at Trustco Insurance, where they will each receive valuable practical experience in the legal working environment. This is to equip them for the future by enhancing their confidence in executing tasks.

The bursaries awards were handed over by the CEO of Insurance, Annette Brand, who spoke of the proud history of this programme: “With the ever-increasing need for legal representation for Namibians, we are faced with more and more scenarios not seen before. We pride ourselves on the fact that young, vibrant minds will be at the forefront, ensuring a newfound understanding in an ever-developing legal landscape. I wish both Madawa and Pienaar the best of luck in completing their studies. Remember that you are standing not just on the shoulders of Legal Shield but equally on the shoulders of those bursary students who came before you,‘’ she said.

The management of Trustco Insurance believes that investing in promising legal students is an investment in the future. Legal Shield was launched in 2000 as the first Namibian legal insurance provider. It offers affordable legal cover against costs stemming from civil, criminal, matrimonial, labour, and administrative matters.
