THE Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has put all systems in place, ready for tomorrow’s by-election in the Okaku constituency of the Oshana Region.
Polling officials have this afternoon already collected the necessary equipment, including ballot papers and ballot boxes from a store room at the Oshakati Police Station and have departed to their respective polling stations under the watchful eyes of law enforcement officers.
Returning officer Naftal Shipanga said that there are 18 polling stations, three of which are mobile.
All are expected to open at 07:00 and close at 21:00, after which the counting of ballots starts.
Four candidates representing four political formations — IPC, NEFF, PDM and Swapo — are competing for a share of the constituency’s more than 10 000 registered voters.
The by-election became necessary following the passing on of the Swapo councillor and chairperson of the Oshana Regional Council, Gerson Hannu Kapenda, at the end of last year.
