MORE than 200 runners participated in the second Gondwana Green Ridge Trail Run at the Moonraker Outdoor Adventure Rest Camp on Saturday.
The trail run included a 20-kilometre (km) and a 10km running route. These routes were tested in advance by Gondwana Collection Namibia’s Kristy Brits, who is also an avid runner. According to her, both the 10km and the 20km routes were challenging and demanded a lot from the runners.
Nonetheless, the runners persevered, with Vilho Paulus taking first place in the men’s 20km race, while Ottilie Aimwata won first place in the women’s 20km race. Nesley Gaweseb won first place in the men’s 10km race and Pamela Vurayai won first place in the women’s 10km race.
Thomas Miller and Willie Mac van Zyl came second and third respectively in the men’s 20km race, while Alexa Rack and Marietjie de Chavonnes-Vrugt won second and third place respectively in the women’s 20km race.
PC Visser and Jerome Kisting took second and third place respectively in the men’s 10km race and Helena Iipinge and Anne Dawson won second and third place respectively in the women’s 10km race.
The Manager of Moonraker Outdoor Adventure Rest Camp, Tina Goldbeck, said that the objective of the race was to bring people closer to nature and to show them the beauty of the Auas Mountains, especially during the rainy season. For this reason, she added that Gondwana also included a 5km course, which aimed to provide a fun walk through nature, where the winners got to participate in a lucky draw.
“We don’t just want to promote sporting ambitions, but above all socialising, and we really appreciate that so many runners have embraced our offer to spend the day at Moonraker,” Goldbeck said.
The Gondwana Green Ridge Trail Run forms part of the Gondwana Adventure events. These events also include the Moon Valley Marathon, the Moonraker Ridge Trail Run and the Gondwana Care Trust Golf Day, which will take place on 18 March, 16 September and 29 September respectively.
The trail runs were sponsored by King Price Insurance, SPAR Namibia and Nova 103.5 as well as FlyNamibia, StaminoGro, Norflex Gel, OSH-Med international and FabuPharm, among others.
