COHEN Fistball Club (CFC), one of the Windhoek-based fistball clubs, dominated the Bank Windhoek opening Fistball League Tournament that was hosted in Swakopmund during the weekend.
According to a statement released by Bank Windhoek’s Corporate Communication Services, the Swakopmund Fistball Club, boosted by the home turf advantage, won the Category B trophy, while the Under 14 Category went to Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW).
It is reported that in the first set of the final, SKW 1 surprised CFC 1 with a determined performance and, at times, was in the lead with five points.

“Towards the end, Cohen put up a fight but lost the set to SKW 1. After changing sides, the error rate of CFC 1 decreased, which resulted in equalising sets. Both teams put in a shift in the third set, which evened up the competition, and neither team could pull away decisively. A great fight on both sides provided the spectators with an entertaining encounter. In the end, SKW 1 suffered another set defeat. In the fourth set, CFC 1 turned up the heat again with wind support and defeated their long-time rivals SKW 1, with a 1:3 score line,” the statement reads.
The teams in Category B, which included SKW teams and two teams from the coastal city, battled it out for top honours, off which SKW 4 and SFC 2 prevailed in the semi-finals to advance to the final.
“After SKW 4 took the lead, SFC 2 equalised and even took the lead. With the supposedly better side and wind advantage, victory for the hosts seemed within reach. However, SKW 4, on the other hand, fought back and equalised the set result to take it to a sudden death-deciding set. SKW 2 then lost the decisive set. As a result, SFC 2 won the opening tournament for the second time in a row with a 3:2 victory,” the statement reads.
Notwithstanding, the wet coastal weather, teams in Category A such as CFC 1, SKW 1, CFC 2 and SFC 1, played against each other in a round-robin format. CFC 1 won with three victories.
“The defending champions were followed by SKW 1, CFC 2 and SFC 1. The first teams defeated their clubmates in the first semi-final between the two Cohen teams. The semi-final between SKW 1 and SFC 1 was also clearly decided in favour of SKW 1. Luca Ahrens from SKW was voted the Young Player of the Day, while Thomas Hancock from SKW 1 received the Senior Player of the Day trophy,” read the statement.
It is established that the next fistball game is the 2023 Bank Windhoek Fistball League first matchday, which will take place on Saturday, 11 March 2023, at SKW in Windhoek.
