Generous rainfall continues in several regions

THE country continued to receive generous rainfall this week, with many places in the Khomas, Otjozondjupa, Hardap and //Kharas regions recording more than 30mm of rain in 24 hours.
Nukois, in the //Kharas Region, is one of the places that truly stood out in this regard, recording 65mm of rain between Wednesday and Thursday morning alone.

This is according to Namibia Meteorological Services’ rainfall bulletins, which also revealed that many other places in the //Kharas Region received significant rainfall this week. This includes Keetmanshoop and Tses, which recorded 37mm and 18mm of rain respectively between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Some places in the Hardap Region also received impressive rainfall this week. For example, Rehoboth recorded 49,2mm of rain between Monday and Tuesday morning. Hardap Region’s capital, Mariental, also received some light rain this week, recording 5,8mm of rain between Monday and Tuesday, followed by another 14,4mm of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

A few places in the Khomas Region also recorded more than 30mm of rain in a day. One of these places is Naos, which recorded 34,5mm of rain between Wednesday and Thursday morning. Windhoek’s Hosea Kutako International Airport and surrounding areas also received generous rainfall this week, recording 37,2mm of rain between Monday and Tuesday morning, followed by another 17,8mm of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Heavy rainfall was also a regular occurrence in the Otjozondjupa Region, where Otjiwarongo and Grootfontein recorded 36,4mm and 34mm of rain respectively between Monday and Tuesday morning. Both of these places continued to receive rain throughout the week, with Otjiwarongo recording an additional estimated total of 13,2mm of rain between Wednesday and Friday morning, while Grootfontein recorded about 29,6mm of rain during the same period.

The North was also not excluded from the rain this week. Rundu, in the Kavango East Region, and Katima Mulilo, in the Zambezi Region, are among the northern towns that received persistent, heavy rainfall during the week. In this regard, Rundu recorded 31mm of rain between Thursday and Friday morning, while Katima Mulilo recorded 33,6mm of rain during the same period.

The country’s widespread rainfall continues to be a cause for celebration, particularly online, where some social media users have shared photos, videos and observations of the rainfall in their areas.

“Only a Namibian will understand the joy and happiness for this precious, much needed water,” one Facebook user shared, along with a few photos showing the heavy rainfall received at a farm in the Hardap Region.
