A 24-year-old man from Otjomuise was shot dead at midnight on Tuesday after he allegedly gave directions to a man that he met in the area.
According to Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga of the Namibian Police, the murder incident happened on 25 January 2023 between 00:00 and 01:30 on the corner of Beijing and Kitchener streets.
It is reported that the deceased was sitting in the street with two of his friends when an unknown man (suspect) approached them.
It is reported that the suspect appeared to be having a telephonic conversation on his mobile, and the deceased and his two friends heard the suspect saying he was lost.
It is further alleged that one of the deceased’s friends told the suspect that he must tell the person that he was on the phone with that he was in Beijing Street, and this seemed to have angered the suspect.
“The suspect then took out a firearm and cocked it. This prompted the deceased to stand up and walk towards the suspect and ask as to why he was cocking the firearm in front of them then the suspect just shot the deceased once on the right side of the chest and again once at the back. The deceased then informed his friends that he was shot and started falling,” Kuwinga explained.
Kuwinga said that the friends then took the deceased home, where the deceased later passed on. The suspect is an unknown man and has not yet been arrested.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
