THREE men, who are well-known robbers, were arrested by police while two escaped after being intercepted by police in a high-speed chase, which culminated in a crash.
According to Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga of the Namibian Police, information was received of a car that was booked out at a car rental business in Windhoek by well-known criminals.
The suspects, after booking out the rental car, drove to Walvis Bay.
Kuwinga said that a search was immediately initiated and the car was traced in Sam Nujoma Avenue in Walvis Bay.
“The police tried to stop the car, but the driver drove away of which the police gave a chase as the suspect attempted to flee. He collided against two vehicles, where it finally came to a standstill. Police found two unlicensed firearms in the car and the displayed number plates was not that of the vehicle. The original number plates were found in the car,” Kuwinga said.
The incident happened on Monday, 23 January, at about 09:00 in Sam Nujoma Avenue, Walvis Bay.
The two fire-arms which were discovered in the car had their serial numbers scratched off.
The arrested suspects include a 35-year-old Namibian man as well as a 30-year-old and 21-year-old Namibian man.
Two more suspects managed to escape. Police investigation continues.
The suspects are charged with Conspiracy to commit Robbery, Reckless and/or negligent driving and Possession of unlicensed firearms.
