Oshikango Freedom Square health hazard

TENANTS and customers at one of the popular complexes in Oshikango are calling on Freedom Square owners to have their toilets fixed.

The issue of broken toilets has been described as an ugly problem that is getting worse for those wanting to make use of the toilet.

It is either a person carrying N$3 to use the public toilets or waiting to get home to relieve themselves.

Proper sanitation facilities promote health as people are allowed to dispose of their waste appropriately.

This also prevents contamination of the environment and reduces risk to themselves and their surroundings.

During the visit by Informanté, one easily observes how a customer drops everything to rush to the corner of the complex to ease themselves.

And when the public toilet is closed, they cross the road to the nearby local bar to make use of the toilet.

Grace Amon said the situation has been ongoing for over a year and nothing had been done.

“Our health is being endangered and little is being done,” she said.

Amon indicated that one is discouraged to visit Freedom Square as their health is not considered.

However, Freedom Square supervisor, Tresia Hasina indicated that they are aware of the matter and working around the clock to fix the situation.

“The toilet pipes are a big issue and we planning to have them all fixed,” she added.

Hasina indicated that some of the toilets used to be blocked, but they have contracted someone to have the issue of the toilet addressed.
