Northern councils maintain status quo

MANY town councils in the North have re-elected their office-bearers.

Ondangwa re-elected Paavo Amwele as mayor, with Ester Auala as his deputy mayor.

Julia Kapia, Nikodemus Amadhila (both Swapo) and Ericky Angula (IPC) were re-elected as members of the Management Committee, while Maria Haufiku and Alfeus Hauwanga (both IPC) are ordinary council members.

At Oshikuku, Julia Endjambi (SWAPO) was re-elected as the town mayor and will be deputised by Petrus Petrus (SWAPO).

Veronica Mwenyo, Linus Mingeli and Williams Sheende, all from SWAPO, were re-elected as members of the Management Committee, while Petrus Nambinga (IPC) and Rosalia Kalimbo (IPC) are council members.

In Ongwediva, Taarah Shalyefu was also recently re-elected for the third time as the town’s mayor. His fellow Swapo councillor, Ulalia Katonyala, also retained her position as deputy mayor of the town.

Naemi Amuthenu (Swapo), Jona Helao (IPC) and Fabiam George (Swapo) remain members of the Management Committee.

Meanwhile, Kaarena Shikongo and Ottillie Haitota, both from Independent Patriots of Change (IPC), are ordinary members of the seven-member Ongwediva Town Council.

Oshakati also re-elected Leonard Hango of SWAPO to serve as the town’s mayor for the third time, while his fellow Swapo councillor, Puyeipawa Elifas, retained her position as deputy mayor.

Ruusa Frans, Maria Mutumbulwa and Hofeni Mutota will also remain members of the Management Committee.

Meanwhile, IPC Councillor Jerobeam Ndaamohamba remain the only ordinary councillor, with the seventh position vacant.
