Sports Desk

WHEN the iconic scream of the king of birds of prey, The African Fish Eagle, at daybreak tomorrow echoes over the nation announcing daybreak from the banks of the Okavango- Zambezi and Kwando rivers the young guns of Namibian world Cup cricket will resume their quest for Namibian glory in Australia when the first delivery will be bowled in the match between the Netherlands and the pride of the nation.

Billions of TV-viewers will be nailed to their screens at 06:00 to follow the fairy tale run of the Namibian team who stole the hearts of cricket enthusiasts around the world and put Namibia one again on the world sports map as ambassadors of character and belief that makes Namibians winners who nearly always punches above their weight in the competitions for pride and courage wherever they go or represent the country on any stage and anywhere.

The comeback of the Namibian Eagles against their famed opponents and collapse of two times T20 World Cup winners Sri Lanka is still the talk of the cricket world after the Namibians turned the tables by beating Sri Lanka by 55 runs to start their World Cup campaign and remain on the march to the Super 12 rounds.

Captain Gerhard Erasmus who is quickly and quietly built on his leadership skills on the rugby and cricket field since his childhood days pointed out that the “underdog tag” with the media giving the Eagles an 11% chance of winning was maybe one of the biggest motivators and “Brought the team right back to earth and focus on the task of winning.

The lost against the Sri Lanka at last years world cup was just an added inspiration for the Namibian team who are rearing to soar again at 06:00 against the Netherlands whose ranks are also teeming with big players and cricket pedigrees who upsetted many teams in the past and never be to inderestimated something Namibia will not do.
