SWAPO PARTY parliamentarian and former cabinet minister Jerry Ekandjo is back in the news after party Secretary-General Sophia Shaningwa convoked an urgent meeting of the Central Committee to take place in the Parliamentary Caucus Room C1 at 09:00 on Friday.
All central committee members are invited.
The only item on the agenda is Ekandjo’s request for inclusion in the list of “aspiring candidates” for the position of Swapo vice president.

Ekandjo was one of the initial four male candidates but was eliminated together with minister Tom Alweendo, leaving ministers Frans Kapofi and Pohamba Shifeta as the two male candidates.
Meanwhile, Kapofi has withdrawn from the race citing personal reasons.
The two female vice presidential candidates are the incumbent Netumbo Nandi-Ndeitwah and Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.
The elective congress takes place next month.
