Health Ministry keeps check on swine flu

Staff Reporter

THE Ministry of Health and Social Services urged Namibians to be cautious after national and regional health facilities are reporting a possible Swine Flu (N1H1) outbreak.

The Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Mr Ben Nangombe, reminded Namibians to maintain sneezing and coughing etiquette to minimise the spread of the virus.

“We have activated our system to verify the information through our laboratory and the nation will be informed accordingly,’ Nangombe said.

He explained that swine flu is primarily caused by the H1N1 strain of the influenza virus and is one of several flu virus strains that can cause the seasonal flu.
