CULTURAL festivals continue to unite people from different ethnic groups at the same time creating a platform to network and engage.
The International University of Management (IUM) Ongwediva Campus has kicked off with the biggest fun activity on their calendar through the hosting of the cultural expo.
The Expo which kicked off on the 12th of September at the town’s campus is expected to conclude on the 17th of this month, and will offer various entertainment and educational programs for the visitors.
The expo is being held under the theme: “We unite through consolidated culture”.
Speaking during the official opening Oshana governor Elia Irimari said the Cultural festival has grown in leaps and bounds.
Irimari stated that this event signifies the University’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity and relevance in society.
“An event like this is commendable, that IUM has created this platform for us to talk about culture and educate the young people on the importance of culture,” he said.
He emphasized that Namibia is home to citizens of many ethnicities and religions.
Therefore, culture is meant to bond us because it is a unifying force.
Irimari stated that such an event will help people to embrace human values that will help them build a united, inclusive and caring society, and make them pioneers of new visions for a better future.
“Therefore, in our search for national and world unity, and peace, may we make use of these tested avenues of cultural understanding and tolerance,” he added.
IUM Student Representative Council Chairperson Jesaya Ndunga, said this year’s expo has attracted a total of 64 exhibitors.
Of those exhibitors, some came from the north-east part of the country, while some travelled from the Khomas Region.
This is the third cultural event being held by IUM Ongwediva.
