FORMER sprint champion of the world Frank Frederick gave N$1.2 million for the development of a sporting ground at Okahao with the aim of uplifting a Namibian child through sports.
Frederick also availed scholarships worth N$100 000 to local children based on his belief that education is key to a bright future.
“Sport has changed my life, and I hope to make a difference in a Namibian child’s life,” he said.
Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service Anges Tjongarero, said that the construction of the state-of-the-art sporting facility at Okahao will not only benefit the town’s residents, but also the neighbouring communities.
“Great moments will be born on this stadium, and from those moments will arise our future olympians,” she said.
She thanked the Frankie Fredericks’s Foundation for its generous donation towards the Okahao Town Council.
Tjongarero indicated that this is also a sign to the youngsters, that the people have raise the bar for them by bring the needed facilities to their door step.
The Council at the same event also raised over N$ 400 000 in cash and kind.
