THE National rail company TransNamib has signed an agreement on Friday, 2 September 2022, regarding wage negotiations that would cover more than 1 200 workers at TransNamib, bringing an end to the current industrial action and strike.
Abigail Raubenheimer, TransNamib’s spokesperson, stated that the parties agreed to implement the salary increases based on the company’s Salary Structure, for the levels A1 to C5.
The workers in the A1-A3 band will receive an increase of 5.5%, B1–B5 band 4.5% and C1 – C5 band 3.5%.
Also, as part of the agreement, workers will receive a N$100 increase on Transport Allowance, from N$542 to N$642 per month for members in the Bargaining Unit (A1-C5).
“In the spirit of goodwill, TransNamib will not apply the No Work – No Pay principle as previously planned and envisaged. Equally NATAU, has waived 22 months of back pay and workers will receive only three months back pay,” Raubenheimer said.
She added that to ensure that the trajectory of TransNamib changes and the company moves forward to sustainability, TransNamib and the Namibia Transport and Allied Workers Union (NATAU) have agreed to form a united team between them as parties that will meet at least on a monthly basis in order to deal with all matters pertaining to vastly improving the relationships in the organisation, with a view to team building, culture change initiatives and, especially, high performance for all TransNamib employees.
The parties have also confirmed their commitment to jointly work together to increase TransNamib’s revenue from the current levels to average N$45 million per month by the beginning of the next financial period.
