MINISTER of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa officially opened the new NaTIS office on Friday at Okahao.
The inauguration of this office came at a time when the residents of Okahao used to travel long distances to Oshakati to access vehicle registration and learners licensing services.
Okahao was proclaimed as a town 18 years ago, and has a population of about 30 000.
Mutorwa stated that the opening of this office is a significant milestone to the government, Okahao Town Council and the people for the Omusati Region at large.
“This office will bring much needed NaTIS services closer to the people of this town and the entire region,” he said.
Mutorwa added that although the facility is not equipped to provide all examining functions for vehicles and drivers, it will cater for registration and licensing of vehicles, annual renewal of vehicle licences, renewal of driving licences and testing and issuing of learners licences.
He indicated that their aspiration is to have fully fledged NaTIS facilities countrywide.
Mutorwa also reassured the people that the Roads Authority will continue to construct new vehicle and driver testing centres as well as upgrade existing centres to ensure effective and efficient service delivery in all corners of the country.
“My office is inundated with requests and demands for NaTIS services hence, together with the Roads Authority and Road Fund Administration they have commenced to explore, among others the introduction of an Intelligent Driving Testing Centre, NaTIS Business and Contact Centers and acquisition of a mobile vehicle testing station,” he said.
NaTIS is also expected to open its doors in Helao Ndafidi town this month.
Omusati governor Erginus Endjala called on the public to appreciate government efforts of bringing the services closer to them.
He stressed that the community of Okahao should feel honored to have NaTIS in the town which will cut out long queues at Oshakati or Outapi by accessing the services closer to them.
Resident of Okahao Iipinge Kaula told Informanté that they were happy that the services was brought closer to them.
He indicated that they no longer need to travel to areas such as Oshakati and Outapi to access the march needed services.
King of Ongandera Johannes Mupiya was given the first number plate during the official opening of NaTIS office.
