Staff Reporter

A 73-year-old man with disabilities identified as Mathias Tjirimezumo burned to death yesterday, 1 September, after his shack caught fire.

According to the Erongo police, the incident happened at Omatjete around 23:30 at Okarui okape Village.

It is alleged that the zink house of the 73-year-old deceased caught fire and burned to ashes while he was inside. It is further reported that the old man stayed alone in the shack.

The deceased sustained 90 degree burn wounds and died at the scene. He was allegedly last seen alive at around 20:00 the same day by a family member.

It is reported that he has been using a self-made paraffin lamp and it is suspected that the lamp burst and caused the fire.

The body of the deceased will be taken to Walvis Bay Police mortuary for postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.

No foul play is suspected. The next of kin were informed.
