Police warns residents against criminals

Samuel Shinedima

THE Namibian Police Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, has warned residents of the Windhoek City to be vigilant and beware of criminals, following a widely circulated video of a smash and grab attempt, suspected to have taken place in Khomasdal on Monday evening.

The police indicated that safety should always be everyone’s concern, adding that criminal activities are increasing countrywide, and this warrants a need for all Namibians to be vigilant at all times.

Shikwambi stated that, looking at the video, one can conclude that the vehicle behind was ready to assist, citing that it is a commendable approach, while simultaneously applauded those who filmed the happening in order for the nation to witness the reality of crime activities and at the same time educating people to be alert.

“The filming or alternatively the use of social media in this instance was wisely utilized and that is really contributing to our education” She said.

Shikwambi further added that crime is not only a violation of people’s fundamental rights and privileges but a disruption of peace in the community, and that Namibians need to join hands and fight crime.

“Unfortunately, the police cannot be everywhere, every time in order to compact or curb such incidents but community policing is a crucial element in combating crime. We need to be vigilant, protect ourselves and practice safety, always” She concluded

Anyone, who could identify the suspects is encouraged to report to the nearest police.
