THE owner of a sports consultancy firm in the Oshana Region said that the development of sports in the country requires a collective effort from all citizens.
Sammy Mushelenga, the owner of the Sammy Sports Consultants CC, spoke at an event at Ondangwa on Saturday, where he handed over sports gear and equipment to ten sports teams from Ohangwena, Oshikoto and Oshana regions.
According to Mushelenga, the equipment valued at more than N$60 000, was donated by Palm View hotel and the JB Sport Group from Botswana.
The donation included 90 cones, 25 soccer balls and 20 netball balls.
The donated items were distributed evenly between the teams.
“We are assisting the teams with the little we have in order to keep them floating,” he said.
He added that the equipment should be utilized for its intended purpose rather than being stored somewhere.
Representative of the Ondangwa Netball Development Academy, Pena Shikongo, said that the donation is a clear indication of Mushelenga’s passion for sport and his willingness to develop sports in the northern regions.
“People like you, whose interest is people-centred and who are always ready to assist, are very rare,” she said.
She then exhorted Mushelenga to not get tired of extending a helping hand to the development of the sport in the North.
