Market Recap 24 July to 2 August 2022

In the local market this week, the NSX Local index was down 0.23% at 469.1, and the NSX Overall Index was up 3.10% at 1565.3. As at 2 August 2022, Namibia Breweries was the largest local company on the exchange, with market capitalization of N$ 8.3 billion, followed by FirstRand Namibia Limited with N$ 8.0 billion, Mobile Telecommunications Limited with N$ 6.0 billion and Capricorn Group Limited with N$ 5.7 billion. Mobile Telecommunications Limited lead the market this week, closing at N$ 8 per share after growth of 6.4%, with Trustco Group Holdings Limited second, closing at N$ 0.4 after growth of 5.3%. In terms of volume Namibia Breweries lead the market with N$ 4.1 million worth of shares traded, with SBN Holdings Ltd in second place with N$ 2.4 million worth of shares traded. The local currency gained 0.44% against the US Dollar, to close at N$ 16.84 per USD, and lost 0.49% against the British Pound, to close at N$ 20.44 per GBP. It closed at N$ 20.44 against the Euro, a gain of 0.01%.

For the month of June 2022, Private Sector Credit Extension shrunk by N$ 710.4 million, or 0.6% since May, but grew by 9.9% compared to June 2021. Over the past year, N$ 10.4 billion worth of credit was extended in total to the private sector, with individuals receiving N$ 1.21 billion, corporates receiving N$ 2.32 billion and non-resident private sectors receiving N$ 6.92 billion.
