AN Oshakati-based police officer was arrested on Friday and accused of stealing illicit goods that he confiscated from Angolan nationals.
The incident occurred at around 10:00.
It is alleged that the 40-year-old police officer, and a colleague, conducted a successful undercover operation that targeted Angolan smugglers.
They managed to confiscate fourteen boxes of Yes cigarettes that were brought into the country illegally.
The cigarettes’ street value was estimated at N$2 800.
However, the suspect only handed in two boxes at the Oshakati police station. The remaining twelve boxes went missing and it is suspected that he kept those boxes for himself.
He is expected to appear in court today (Monday).
