TransNamib workers want salary increment

HELVI Hamukoshi, the national coordinator of the Namibia Transport and Allied Workers Union (NATAU) said that the impending nationwide TransNamib strike, which is planned for 18 July, is necessitated by the union’s demands for a salary increment.

Hamukoshi stated that the union has given in a compromised wage increment demand and if no action is taken, the union will host a nationwide strike. The industrial action strike will start at 7:00 on Monday, 18 July, and will affect the Khomas, Erongo, Omaheke, Hardap, //Kharas, Oshikoto, Oshana, Ohangwena and Otjozondjupa regions.

The strike will subsequently affect the delivery of cargo and goods by TransNamib freight services.

TransNamib’s Acting Executive of Commercial and Marketing Relations, Zebby Mukungum, said that TransNamib’s staff and management, with the support of the government, will work to resolve the matter with urgency.
